What are electronics comparable to the iTouch?

I will be going on a trip soon, and I have limited packing space. I'm a huge book worm and a music junkie (and I love Angry Birds). I don't have enough room in my suitcase to pack books, CDs, etc. So I looked at the iTouch (because it's essentially what I want.) But they're so expensive! Are there any electronics that are comparable to the iTouch that may be even just a little bit cheaper? I'm living on a tight budget. Are there any special sales for stuff like this?
