Is there a free program comparable to Adobe Premier Elements?

I have movie maker right now, and honestly, I can't stand it. At my school, we always used Adobe Premier Elements which I fell in love with. Since then, I've switched schools so I can't just borrow the school computer to use it. Is there anything just as good (or at least better than movie maker) that I can use that's free? Since I'm only going to be using it for school and randomness, there's no point of spending $100 for Elements.
